"This has been a year for dreams to come true at the Center.
And, as is often the case, reality is far greater than our wildest imagination.
The Center’s first season of Marine Science Summer Camps has added to that
notion.
"This
summer, the Center offered two, one-week sessions of camp. Each session had 25
participants between the ages of 8 and 12. The first session was primarily
children from East Jefferson
County. The second
session included kids from all over the Puget Sound
region. Instruction and play was coordinated by four Center regulars: Lois
Sherwood, Anne Murphy, Diane Boardman and Frank D’Amore.
"We spent
two very full weeks exploring the marine environment through observation and
hands-on activities. These activities included beach seines, fossil hunts, tide
pool exploration, expeditions up Chimacum Creek to explore wild salmon habitat,
and exercises and games to help define terms like “habitat” and “observation.”
And of course everyone had a chance to develop an up-close and personal
relationship with the creatures in the exhibit at the Center. In the evening,
there were storytellers to enrich the images of our day’s experiences."
22
years later, we’re still offering summer camps to kids. This is one of
30 reasons to give $30 to celebrate 30 years. Or increase your impact and give
more. All funds support the Future Fund to keep the PTMSC going strong. Donate
