Free Science Classes

Free Science Classes grew out of a desire to bring people to PTMSC in the winter months, during a time when our visitor numbers are down and student groups are not coming in. It was decided that special winter exhibits would be created in order to attract visitors during this slow period. Realizing that it was a quite a bit of work to create the exhibits, and since there had been a desire to provide some free classes to schools that could not afford our regular classes, the themes and educational content created for the winter exhibits, were incorporated into classes that would be offered and promoted to schools as "Free Science Classes."

These classes also pushed us to market to schools that are "further afield" such as Quilcene, Brinnon, Sequim, and Port Angeles. The first Free Science Classes theme was "Plastics in the Marine Environment." The winter exhibits were discontinued that year. 2012 was the fourth year of these classes and we host between 600 and 1000 students during the months of Jan-March.

This is one of 30 reasons to give $30 to celebrate 30 years. Or increase your impact and give more. All funds support the Future Fund to keep the PTMSC going strong. Donate online or call (360) 385-5582, ext. 104, or send a check to 532 Battery Way, Port Townsend, WA 98368.
