According to Wikipedia.org, "A blog (a contraction of the term weblog) is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video." In the case of the Port Townsend Marine Science Center Blog, this is a website that is all about the experiences had by AmeriCorps members Allison Gravis and Liza Jacobson while working at the PTMSC between October 2008 and August 2009.
What is the purpose of the PTMSC Blog?
Great question! Have you ever heard that the best things in museums are in the back? The purpose of the PTMSC Blog is to provide a unique view that the non-PTMSC employee would not generally see. This is especially important in the winter months when the Marine Exhibit is closed to the public. Even though we are closed during that time, we still want to share the wonderful world of marine science with those that are interested. Besides that, we view the Blog as a way to inform readers of special events, programs, and other things going on around our Marine Science Center.
When is the Blog is updated?
In the same way that you can subscribe to a magazine, you can also subscribe to the Blog. On the right side of the Blog's main page, below the description, there is a place where you can enter your email address. Once you confirm your subscription, you will receive all of our new updates by email. Most of our posts will be simple text with an image or two, but sometimes we will also post videos.
How do I view a video?
If you receive an email saying that the Blog has been updated and there is a video -- but you can't see any video in the email -- simply click on the title of the post to go directly to the Blog. From there you will see an image that is a still frame from the video.
In the image above, the play button is outlined in red. Press the play button and enjoy!
